In the market for a new pair of running shoes? Did you know that your shoes need to be changed around every 300-500 miles? If you are running in shoes that surpass those miles it can take you down a running path that can cause injury. When it is time to buy new running shoes some people may know the exact brand and style they desire. This can be because they know their weekly miles, foot strike and may have a product they love. Having a commitment to one brand is not what I choose to do. My running shoes are all over the place and this is not necessarily a bad thing!
When it is time for me to retire my shoes and get new ones -it is an exciting, but big decision! My friends and family know that I don’t spend a lot of money on much unless it's for running shoes (and race registration). I spend so much "quality time" with my shoes that I want to make sure I purchase shoes that will help keep me uninjured and comfortable.
Shoes that are a perfect fit for someone else, may not be the best for you. If you are open to try a different brand of shoes you might be pleasantly surprised! I suggest going to a running shoe store because they will take the time to look at your balance, stride, speed, etc. Most stores either have a treadmill or will let you run outside while they watch your stride. This will help determine the best shoes for you. Once you have found your magical new shoes go out and celebrate with a run!
